Greetings from Hanover. October is a fun month to be in Hanover and we hope you did make it to Homecoming on October 14. If you did, you know how appreciative we all are of Kate and Dave Hewitt for putting on a great dinner at their wonderful Connecticut River house. Thanks Kate and Dave! Significant physical improvements have been made on campus, including the gym—the Ivy Leagues largest exercise facility—the football field with its new "field turf," two new dorms and many new classrooms. I had an interesting note from John Fishel, who, with his wife, Kim, and 6-year-old daughter Karina, lives on a 5-acre "gentleman's ranch" in Blanchard, Oklahoma. John will be teaching a course on peace operations this fell and on national security policy in the spring at the University of Oklahoma. In addition he plans to write a "classically structured" textbook on international relations. He will also be training to racewalk the Disney World Marathon and better his 2004 time from New York. John has recently retired from the Department of Defense as a teacher for 14 years at the National Defense University. Earlier he was a professor and Army Reserve officer. Of particular interest, he has written/co-authored and edited four books, the most recent being UncomfortableWars Revisited. Amazon has the book and those reviewing it give it five stars—the best. Congratulations, John. Warner Knobe writes about experiences in community banking both in Colorado and New Jersey. In both states he has been a bank founder: two in Colorado and one in New Jersey in 1989 called the Bank of Gloucester. This bank is now part of the Fulton Financial Corp., of which Warner is president of the New Jersey division. In his spare time he does a broad variety of Christian ministry work involving evangelism and outreach to business and professional men. "This is the most rewarding activity, in that I bring the biblical message of hope and redemption to folks who are frequently searching for meaning and purpose in life." Warner and his wife, Diane, will soon celebrate 41 years of marriage, have two daughters and three grandchildren who all live within two hours in south Jersey. Steve Stein, our new head of leadership giving, is practicing general surgery full time at Yale New Haven and St. Raphaels hospitals and is on the clinical faculty at Yale Medical School. Fie has three children—one about to start law school at U. Pennsylvania, another to start journalism at Columbia and a third a senior in high school. Steve said, "It was an honor working for the campaign this year, with such dedicated people as Sabin Danziger, Janet Rosa and others. There were a lot of frustrations but for the most part it was rewarding." Steve asks that you welcome those who make the fundraising calls—thevolunteers are doing it out of love and respect for the College. Great work, Steve.
