Scott Mason wrote in from Chappaqua, New York. After more than 10 years as a strategic marketing consultant Scott recently became the chief marketing officer for a startup company called Breedlove Motor Works. Its principal product will be a line of V8-powered motorcycles for experienced riders who want to step up their riding experience a notch or two. Breedlove plans to preview these machines at Biketoberfest in Daytona this fall. Scott is excited about this opportunity to create an entirely new and integrated consumer brand from the ground up in a fun and fascinating category. On the personal side, Scott began writing poetry about 10 years ago. He was drawn to haiku and was first published in Modern Haiku magazine four years ago. Scott's work has evolved, and earlier this year he won two international competitions: the James W. Hackett Award, sponsored by the British Haiku Society, and the Betty Drevniok Award, sponsored by Haiku Canada, which he had also won two years ago. Scott is now awaiting the results of this year's Harold G. Henderson Award, sponsored by the Haiku Society of America.
Tom Guidi continues to practice law in Boston, mostly in commercial real estate, with Hemenway & Barnes, Bostons oldest law firm, where he has been since 1979. Tom is a partner and a member of the firm's management committee. As of this writing Tom was working on a project with people at Steve Allisons company, Paradigm Properties. Tom, his wife, Karen, and their children have lived in Danvers, Massachusetts, for the past 20 years. Tom's stepson Jason graduated from Georgetown in 2001, is married and has been working as a literary agent in New York. Tom's daughter Lauren is a senior at the Governor's Academy. Tom, Karen and Lauren have been on the college circuit since last spring and have already visited 15 colleges. Lauren is a soccer player who hopes to enroll at a small, Division 3 college in New England. Tom and Karen also have a son, Ryan, a high school sophomore whose immediate goal is to make the junior varsity soccer team at St. John's Prep. Tom enjoys playing golf whenever he can, although much of the fall and spring are taken up by his children's soccer and softball games.
Al Ziegler and his wife, Kathy, live in Drexel Hill, a western suburb of Philadelphia. Kathy has retired twice from a career in banking and now volunteers at the chaplains office of a local hospital. Al took early retirement from Wachovia and then joined Royal Bank America, where he does commercial lending, especially for real estate. Al and Kathy have a son, Mark, and a daughter, Heather, who are both nurses and live in the Philadelphia area. Mark has a 4-year-old son, Grant, who made Al a grandfather. (Ouch! That's the first time I've ever used that word in this column!) Heather is engaged to be married in October to a fellow who has a 5-year-old daughter, so there will soon also be a granddaughter in the family.
I recently received very sad news from the College that Steve Robbins died in July. Please watch for an obituary in a future edition of the DAM.
