Where to start? How about with recent e-mails: Cub reporter Dennis Donahue shared news: Sam Swisher lured Eric Hatch from his professional photography in Cincinnati for a ski vacation in New Hampshire this past winter. Eric lost an edge during a tight turn on steep terrain and broke a rib. This did not prevent him from proceeding on skis under his own power to the bottom of the mountain. Sam and wife Polly are in Framingham, Massachusetts; oldest son Grant is in med school at Temple; Darren a senior at Colby; and Todd about to graduate from high school. Sam and Polly joined Dennis at his surprise 60th birthday party. Veteran correspondent Parker Beverage shared news, via a '72 visiting Colby, of Ted Neiley.Tim and his Colby-alumna spouse, Ellen, live in Charlotte, Vermont, near Burlington. Ted hailed from Moline, Illinois, spent some time in the Coast Guard and finished up at Dartmouth in 1972. Parker also noted that Hank Paulson and Goldman Sachs were awarded the Opening Minds Corporate Leadership Award by the Institute for International Education in recognition of the firm's "outstanding commitment to corporate social responsibility around the world." And I saw a Wall Street Journal article speculating Hank might be heading toward a cabinet position in D.C. Past prez Steve Calvert reported in, shamelessly bragging about his two daughters. Tiffany is an artist (googleable) with a growing clientele and Elizabeth (Ebett) is doing research diving for NOAA. under the Arctic ice sheet, and appeared on ABC, NBC (maybe) and an NPRaudio postcard. As for Steve, its already been four years in Denver, at University of Denver in alumni relations.
At a recent class executive committee meeting, plans for our 40th reunion are solidifying. Dick Olson formally accepted the role of overseeing the preparation of a reunion book and John "Bear" Everett was selected by acclamation as the reunion chairman John also reported that his Appalachian Trail adventure ended prematurely with a bum knee on about Day 4.The Bearwill be back! Coming much sooner, the executive committee plans a July 14-16 mini-reunion weekend in Hanover, with golf planned for Friday and Saturday, dinner both evenings and we'll sneak in an executive committee meeting on Saturday morning. Everyone is welcome. We did this last year and it was a blast. And also coming soon is the class 60th birthday party at the Silverado in Napa Valley, September 15 through 17. Walk-ins welcome! Have a great summer and keep the news coming.
