Greetings! By the time this issue reaches you, our 30th reunion will have come and gone. I hope you will have had a chance to rekindle old relationships and connect with friends from the past, picking up where you left off in a place that has a special meaning for all of us.
This month I had the good fortune to receive at least some news of classmates. Word comes from the Portland, Oregon, area that Bradford H. Fletcher, SIOR, executive VP and managing director of Grubb & Ellis, has been named to Grubb & Ellis' presidents council and has been named the Portland area's Commercial Association of Realtors Broker of the Year for 2005-This is the sixth time Brad has been recognized as the region's leading industrial broker. In 2 005 Brad's volume was more than $100 million and 1.1 million square feet. Congratulations, Brad.
The College forwarded a recent copy of the Valley News that had an extensive article in which their local reporter got a chance to pick Jim Beattie's brain on baseball topics ranging from salaries to steroids to the state of the game. It also spent some time talking about Jim's career as a player with the Yankees and Mariners and in management with the Mariners, Expos and Orioles. No mention was made of Jim's efforts with Martha Johnson Beattie to help out with our 30th reunion and the associated fundraising. Thanks to both of them for all their hard work on behalf of the College and our class.
The College also sent the details of a Q & A session Jack Brennan had in Pittsburgh that was published in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The article gave some background as to Jacks steering of the Vanguard Group from when he took over from John Bogle some 10 years ago. When he took over the reins Vanguard managed some $200 billion in assets. At present they are approaching management of almost $1 trillion. The questions ranged from the economy in general, to retirement savings and stock market.
Best wishes to all, and please make sure you send news to my successor. People are interested in what you are doing and how you are doing.
