Assuming the vent checks went well, I'll get right to the news.
As promised, below is the continuation of Shara Frase's late February news. Unfortunately, the U.S. Supreme Court decided unanimously against her firm on the First Amendment case at which she recently assisted, but Shara has exciting news nonetheless—she's accepted a position as a federal prosecutor and will start this fall!
Shara also wrote in with a lot of news about other 955. Betsy (Billings) Wright, her husband, Nathan, and their son, Carson, who was born in July, just moved into a beautiful new home in Tiburon with great views of the Marin hills. Carson is growing fast and is well on his way to being a member of the class of 2023.
Nearby in San Francisco are Kelly (Bryson) Murphy and her husband, Ted Murphy '94. Kelly has recently been very active with the Red Cross, helping with benefits and fundraisers in the wake of the Asian tsunami and Hurricane Katrina, while Ted works at Smith Barney and coaches some very successful Bay Area crew teams.
Allison Thoreson, also in San Francisco, is working for Ghirardelli Chocolate and engaged to "a fantastic guy" to whom she's getting married this fall. In other wedding news, last June Allison and Shara attended the wedding of their friend Tomoko Nakamura '96 and Allison's cousin, Don Fortune (a Michigan alum), at City Hall in San Francisco. Shara said that there were too many Dartmouth connections at the wedding to cover them all but she's hopeful that the '96s who were there will or have reported more fully on the festivities and participants.
This must be the West Coast edition! Brian Greenberg is enjoying life and keeping busy as a high school principal in the Bay Area of San Francisco. He says that working with the 96 students in his new charter school is extremely rewarding, as the goal is to send all of them to college despite the challenging backgrounds that many have. Brian and his wife, Christina, are able to get away for ski weekends, bike trips or visits to friends many weekends, and the American bulldog that runs their house keeps them entertained the rest of the time. Brian encourages you to drop him a line to reconnect if you find your self in the Bay Area. (Remember, you can find contact info on the online alumni directory at www.alum.dartmouth.org.)
Chris Ferry wrote to say that he's living in Brooklyn with his wife, Rachel, a sculptor. Chris is an actor and producer whose latest film, Salvage, screened at Sundance this past January. You can check out the movie at www.salvagemovie.com and see Chris' Web site at www.chrisferry.com. Salvage looks pretty creepy, so I hope it makes it to my area. (That's not so far-fetched an idea since, believe it or not, there are actually two Angelika theatres in Dallas.)
Jen (Sopko) Hee finally found a moment to send an update after she and her husband, Corwin, welcomed their first child, Alexander Xavier, on Decentber 6. The strong set of lungs on their new addition is making the proud parents think he might be in training to be a singer like his mommy and daddy! In other news Jen reported that Dr. Anitra Auster married her longtime boyfriend Dr. Julius Birnbaum in November. Jen was unable to make it but passed along that Kate Chamberlin and Cindy Chu attended, along with Emily McConnell '97. Anitra and her husband live in Baltimore, Maryland.
That's it for now. Keep in touch!
