My thanks to the Washingtonian Magazine for bailing me out on this slow summer day.

Flipping through the July issue, an article caught my eye— "Young Guns: 40 Lawyers Under 40 who are making a name for themselves" in the nations capital. I had to know someone, I thought, and, in fact, I did. Seth Rosenthal, described as a graduate of our fine alma mater and of Harvard Law School, "attributes his interest in civil rights to his experiences playing on one of the few integrated high school sports teams in northeast Ohio." The magazine detailed how, during his first summer in law school Seth "worked on the eventual exoneration of Walter McMillan, an Alabaman who had spent six years on death row after being wrongly convicted of killing a teenager." After law school Seth worked in the housing and civilian enforcement section of the Justice Department's civil rights division. His work suing landlords in Arkansas and Mississippi led to his next venture as the legal director of DCs Alliance for Justice. According to the article, Seth also works with the Anne Frank House, a nonprofit that provides housing for homeless mentally

Congratulations to Bill Dean, who received Dartmouth's Young Distinguished Alumni Service Award from Alumni Council President Richard Routhier '73, Tu'76, in December 2005.

Bill served as Alumni Council president for the 2003-2004 term, after chairing the communications and young alumni committees. He served on our fifth reunion committee and class participation rose during his five years as our head agent. Bill has also had a distinguished career at General Mills and has taught English as a second language in the Twin Cities, where he lives with his wife, Christine Geer. The award presentation contained a few other inspiring words for Bill and the rest of us: "The successes in your life were in no small part inspired by the lesson you learned at Dartmouth: that the world is at your doorstep, but that only you can choose to step across the threshold." Look for more news about other alumni service award recipients in a future column.

Late news that Rob Hollister just moved to the bustling metropolis of Shanghai with his family. And Paul Coakley is headed the opposite direction—back to the United States at the end of this year after two years in Hong Kong with his family.

Finally, the '89 babies keep coming. Bobby Jaffe and his wife, Leelee, welcomed their first child, Avery, in June.
