By the time you receive this, the Rene Pujol dinner on the East Coast and the II Fornaio dinner on the West Coast will be history. I'll provide an update on those in the next newsletter. The CarniVail event in Vail, Colorado, was a terrific weekend. Pete Webster reported that the official '71 headcountwas 11: Webster, both Sam and Pete, Don O'Neill, George Rountree, Alan Goodloe, Bucky Allen, Witt Fram, Peter Pratt, Lon Gregg, Andy Harvard and Wayne Hobin. Activities included fantastic skiing in the back bowls, a great Friday 'tails party and a Saturday dinner, including a panel on alternative energy sponsored by Tuck School. It's always helpful to have the local judge in Vail (Buck Allen) on your team. Wayne did a great job coordinating this event with other Dartmouth classes. Mark this on your calendar next year for the first weekend in March.
Peter Bradley reports in from Georgia that he has formed his own "consulting" firm as an independent manufacturers rep in building materials—doors and windows in particular. His daughter Laurens wedding at the Horse Barn at Biltmore a couple of years ago was better than a toga party in the basement of SAE (that is a serious party). It recently occurred to Pete that all he everwanted in life was to know the love of a good woman and feel the wind in his hair as often as possible. Those who knew him when he was at Dartmouth may not be too surprised to find out by this report that he has succeeded beyond his wildest dreams.
Doug Boyink wrote that he recently received the biggest pay raise of his career (second son Jeff graduated from Middlebury and got a job in N.Y.C., paying his own bills). He still sees Bill and Betsy Holm and Jon and Debbie Osgood at Sugarloaf in Maine and Bobbie and Kate Mustard for some golf. His "threeyears to go" retirement plan after 32 years of emergency medicine is dependent on the cost of renovating the kitchen at the Boyink Lodge on Parker Pond. Doug said that visitors are always welcome—one Maine lobster guaranteed.
Don Fowls reported in from the greater Phoenix area, where he is living with wife Susie and three boys 18,15, and 12. He is currently consulting in health care and helping some companies grow and really loving living out in the desert. Don noted that his wife is approaching sainthood with three boys. Matt, his oldest, is probably going to U of Arizona next fall (get out the checkbook and keep your day job).
I got a phone call recently from a reporter who is gathering data to write a story on the 1970 football team that should appear in an upcoming issue of the Alumni Magazine. Based on our conversation he had gathered enough material for a book. Lets hope some of the stories help influence the 2007 football team.
Keep the news coming.
