Because of travel plans I'm writing this earlier than usual, June 6! Remember that date? Sixty-four years agothe invasion of Europe at Normandy. I do. A Mickey navigator, I expected our B17 crew would get a call that day to fly and bomb a target near the invasion beaches. We didn't and I remember spending part of the day censoring enlisted crew members' mail! Yesterday the CNN news lead was about the RFK assassination, today it's tornado warnings but so far (noon) no mention of D-Day.
I trust you have all received Ali Field's 65th reunion flyer calling attention to the activities and accommodation arrangements. Noting that "Love Letters" is on the menu, I gather that Doc Fielding is still treading the boards and will be on scene to do the honors. Ali, kudos for your efforts and enthusiasm! Louise and I are all excited about the program you are chairing and hope it whets the appetite and smokes out some classmates who have been absent at past reunions.
A word of thanks is certainly in order to Bing Donaldson for his efforts as head class agent. As you should all know he was given a most ambitious fundraising goal for this 65th reunion year. I expect by the time you read this it will have been met and probably exceeded. Wah-hoo-wah Bing!
Two deaths to report since the last column: Andy Caffrey and Bob Freedberg. Our condolences to their families.
Keep well and hope to see you at the 65 th, September 28-20!
