ACHIEVEMENTS AND HONORS

William Dexter ’78, M.D., director of family medicine at the Maine Medical Center in Portland, has earned the Governor’s Council on Physical Activity Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to fitness programs in the state.

Frederick “Tad” Stahl ’52, senior architect at Burt Hill in Boston, received an honorary doctorate of collaborative practice from Boston Architectural College. Stahl has worked on a wing of the Peabody Essex Museum, Faneuil Hall Markets and more than 25 community libraries in Massachusetts.

Jeff Reed ’76 coached the Hanover High School’s varsity boys lacrosse team to its second N.H. Division 1 State Championship in the last three years. The 2007 New Hampshire Coach of the Year estimates he has coached about 30 sons of Dartmouth alums; two of his former students now play on the Dartmouth squad.

Hilary Tompkins ’90, a member of the Navajo Nation, has been confirmed by the Senate as solicitor of the Department of the Interior, the agency’s top general counsel. Tompkins served as the chief counsel to New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson from 2003 to 2008.

The Rev. Myles Sheehan ’78, DMS’81, is the new provincial of the New England Province of Jesuits. He will oversee 300 Jesuits serving in various pastoral, spiritual and educational ministries, including Boston College, College of the Holy Cross and Fairfield University.

Laura Friedman Klein ’91, in her role as manager of the federal government pro bono program, received the 2009 ABA Pro Bono Publico Award.

Kirsten Earl ’99 has won a Daytime Emmy for her work as set decorator on The Martha Stewart Show.

Matt Muffelman ’03 and Anthony Fahden ’08 won a silver medal for the United States in the men’s lightweight eight event at the 2009 World Championships in Poznan, Poland.

Tracey Goyette Cote ’90, who practices divorce and family law at Robert Stein & Associates in Concord, New Hampshire, has been named a Rising Star by Super Lawyers.

Stuart Mackler ’59, a retired orthopedic surgeon, has been appointed to the 18-member Virginia Board of Medicine, which is responsible for the licensing of 30,000 physicians and health professionals.

Ilima Loomis ’00, a reporter for The Maui News in Wailuku, Maui, has earned the top award for investigative reporting from the Society of Professional Journalists, Hawaii chapter. The series (at www.mauinews. com/page/content.detail/ id/510243.html) looked at the changes made by Silicon Valley executives to an historic local company, Maui Land & Pineapple.

Brian Foley ’87 and David Cohen ’94 received Excellence in the Classroom Awards at the Drexel University Earle Mack School of Law inaugural commencement. Foley was a visiting associate professor teaching evidence and criminal procedure in 2007-08 and Cohen is an associate professor.

Jason Hsiao ’98 (president), Brad Jefferson ’98 (CEO) and Stevie Clifton ’01 (CTO) have won two Webby awards Judges’ Choice and People’s Voice for best service and application for their company Animoto, which offers a Web application that allows users to turn their photos into music videos.
