Hop Hires

The Hopkins Center has a new director. Mary Lou Aleskie, executive director of the International Festival of Arts & Ideas in New Haven, Connecticut, starts her new job in the spring. “One of the things I really care about is connecting people and ideas with the performance, which the Hop is already doing,” says Aleskie. “I’m ; looking forward to adding value in that area.” The new director will i oversee a budget of $7.8 million.

Scientists Lauded

»> Four faculty members have been named fellows of the American ; Association for the Advancement of Science, the world’s largest scientific society. Nathaniel Dominy (anthropology), Eugene Santos Jr. ;

(engineering), Surachai Supattapone (biochemistry) and Ross Virginia (environmental studies) were honored in a February ceremony. ;

Holiday Honors King

>>> Joshua DuBois preached at Rollins Chapel on Sunday, January 22, as part of a Martin Luther King Jr. multi-faith celebration. DuBois, author of The President’s Devotional: The Daily Readings that Inspired President Obama, was brought to campus by the Tucker Center. He also gave an address at the Nelson A. Rockefeller Center for Public Policy and the Social Sciences.

Farid Named

Fellow of NAI

>» Computer science professor and digital photography forensics expert Hany Farid has been named to the National Academy of Inventors,

an honor bestowed on academic inventors who demonstrate a “highly prolific spirit of innovation,” according to the organization. Farid is now one of seven Dartmouth profs who are NAI fellows.
