Half doses of vaccine urged.
A team of economists has concluded that stretching the Covid-19 vaccine supply by using half doses will more quickly help reduce illness and death. “This is especially important for lowand middleincome countries that have limited access to Covid-19 vaccine supplies,” says econ prof Christopher Snyder, one of the authors of the study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Half or quarter doses of some vaccines could generate high levels of protection, and the costs to test fractional doses would be much lower than the expected public health and economic benefits, according to the researchers. However, commercial incentives to investigate fractional doses are weak, so public investment would be needed.
