Dr. Franklin G. Humiston died December 31 at the Eliot Hospital, Boston, of heart failure following a surgical operation. He was born at Owego, Tioga Co., N. Y., April 10, 1855, being he son of Amos and Betsey Philinda (Ensworth) Humiston. His father, a soldier in the 154th New York Volunteers, was killed in the battle of Gettysburg, and his mother returned to Massachusetts, her native state. Dr. Humiston prepared for college at Lawrence Academy, Groton, Mass. In College he was a member of Theta Delta Chi. After graduation he taught for a year, and then studied medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, obtaining his medical degree in May, 1886. He began practice at once at East Jaffrey, N. H., and there continued through life. As a physician he was remarkably successful, and as a citizen he was beloved by all who knew him. He was married November 3, 1886, to Carrie Relief, daughter of Walter and Martha (Adams) Tarbell of West Groton, Mass., who survives him, with four daughters and two sons, the eldest daughter being connected with the library of Dartmouth.
