Victories over Brown and M. I. T. and high standing in the New England Intercollegiates at the Longwood Courts marked the first trip of the varsity tennis team. The Green netmen made a clean sweep in the opening match with Brown May 6, taking every point and dropping but two sets. Tech offered more formidable opposition the following day and held Dartmouth to a 4-2 win, although Sanders defeated Brookman, former New England title-holder, in straight sets.

In the New England Intercollegiates, May 10-13, the Green entries, Sanders and Carleton, went through their preliminary matches with easy wins. Both finally fell before Chapin of Williams, the new champion, who eliminated Carleton in the third round and Sanders in the finals. In the doubles the Dartmouth contenders again bowed to Chapin who with his partner, Pollard, captured final honors. Sanders was elected president of the New England Intercollegiate Lawn Tennis Association, succeeding Al. M. Cate '20 to that office.

Amherst went down to a 5-1 defeat on the Hanover courts May 15. The visiting players were able to take only one of the doubles matches, but Captain Bennett of Amherst drove Sanders to three sets in the most exciting singles match of the afternoon.

The big trip of the season the last week in May resulted in a 3-3 tie with the championship Williams netmen, clean-sweep victories over Rensselaer and Fordham, and a 4-2 loss to Penn. In all four matches both the Green doubles combinations proved unbeatable, but all the Penn players showed superiority in the singles and Carleton was the only Dartmouth man to best his opponent at Williams:

The California wanderers came to Hanover early in June and carried away one of the hardest-fought matches ever played on the home courts, 4-2. In the match between Sanders, the Green's best bet, and Levy, the visiting star, each man took one set and the third set went to 8—8 before the Californian finally triumphed.
