Four new champions were crowned, metaphorically and physically, at the annual college boxing tournament staged by coach Eddie Shevlin on the Alumni Gymnasium basketball court, March 10. In the 125 pound class W. B. Knox '24, winner of the title in 1922 but unable to compete last year, defeated P. B. Smart '24 in the preliminary round and J. T. Griffin '24 in the final bout. B. K. Watts '26 defeating W\ H. Davenport '25 and G. M. Opdyke '26 won the 135 pound championship. The 145 pound title went to J. D. Thees '27 who outpointed J. C. Watson '26 and J. S. Green '26. K. P. Coykenall '25 encountered no difficulty in either L. C. Smith '26 or A. H. Gleason '26 in the 160 pound class. Fast fighting in the 175 pound class resulted finally in the naming as chief of that division of L. J. Obermeier '26 who defeated P. D. Allen '26 and C. J. Connelly '26 . The features of the evening were the bouts of the heavyweight section in which H. A. Wallace '27 after hard fighti ng eliminated W. P. Blodgett '24, the former title holder, and then outpunched C. E. Wallis '26. Watts, Thees, Obermeier and Wallace are newcomers to the champion- ship class.
Approximately 1500 people, including a large number of women, witnessed the bouts, the proceeds of which were donated as in past years to the Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital.
