Dr. W. S. Montgomery retired this fall after forty-two years of service in the public schools of Washington, D. C., first as teacher but finally as supervising principal. The occasion was observed with testimonial exercises on the'evening of November 18 in the auditorium of Dunbar High School, at which the city superintendent, Dr. E. W. Ballou, and several others paid tribute to Dr. Montgomery. Letters were read from several of his classmates, and flowers were received from the class.
John Cotton Dana, director of the new museum at Newark, N. J., announces an industrial art exhibition of leather and leather products on a national scale to be shown in the museum in the spring. It will be the largest project of its kind ever undertaken by an American museum. The leading firms in the country are co-operating. It is to feature decorative leather, furniture and upholstery leather, fancy leathers, etc., to illustrate the history of the production and use of leather from the earliest times to the present day. The purpose is to awaken the public to the great variety of uses and potential uses of leather, and the great part it has played and is playing in civilized life.
