The shattering of a New England tank record and the lowering of a College pool record were features of the first meet of the season in the Spaulding Pool on January 17, D. W. Bogart '27, holder of the New England Intercollegiate plunge record, did the 75 yards in 43 4-5 seconds clipping 2 1-5 seconds from his former mark. H. T. Woodbridge '28, in varsity competition for the first time, set a new local record for the 220-yard swim when he was clocked in 2 minutes 34 seconds.
Wesleyan showed strength in the dashes but the Green was superior in the other events. A summary of the meet follows:
Fifty-yard swim—Won by Howard, Wesleyan; second, Brooks, Wesleyan; third, Boughton, Dartmouth. Time—25s.
Two hundred and twenty-yard swim—Won by Woodbridge, Dartmouth; second, Hutchinson, Dartmouth; third, Hopkins, Wesleyan. Time—2m. 345.
Fancy dive—Won by Blunt, Dartmouth; second, Martin, Wesleyan; third, Severance, Wesleyan.
One hundred-yard backstroke—Won by Slater, Dartmouth; second, McAdoo, Wesleyan; third, Bliss, Wesleyan. Time—lm. 16 4-5s.
One hundred-yard swim—Won by Howard, Wesleyan; second, Brooks, Wesleyan; third, Ballantyne, Dartmouth. Time—59s.
Plunge—Won by Bogart, Dartmouth; second, Murdock, Dartmouth; third, Jackson, Wesleyan. Distance—7s ft. in 43 4-5s. (New England record.) One hundred-yard breaststroke—Won by Satterfield, Dartmouth; second, Thompson, Dartmouth; third, Cheever, Wesleyan. Time —lm. 20s.
Relay—Dartmouth (Bolles, Boughton, Woodbridge and Ballantyne) defeated Wesleyan's team (Brooks, Niels, O'Malley and Howard). Time—lm. 43 4-5s.
