William H. McCarter, director of athletics, announced last month that Head Coach Tuss McLaughry has added William P. Battles to the Dartmouth football coaching staff as end mentor. Battles, who has recently received a medical discharge from the Marine Corps after two years of service, will report to Hanover by July 1 so that he'll be available when Coach McLaughry calls for candidates for the 1945 team at that time.

Battles played football for the Chicago Bears and helped to install the T formation of the Bears at their farm organization in Newark in 1940 and 1941. His appointment completes the Big Green's coaching staff which also includes "Whoops" Snively, line coach, Milt Piepul, backfield coach, and Ossie Cowles in addition to McLaughry.
