In the February number of the ALUMNIMAGAZINE an article was printed, containing a brief summary of the report of Professor Leon B. Richardson on his investigations of the previous year among the colleges and universities of this country and England. This article was the barest outline which could be presented in intelligible form of the complete report. This report lias now been published and is Available at the college offices. It is entitled "A Study of the Liberal College." The report as printed makes a book of 281 pages and its scope can to some extent be judged by the arrangement of its contents. Part I is devoted to the American College, its purpose, its problems, some of the criticisms it must meet, and the handicaps under which it works.
Part II is devoted to the impressions gained from Professor Richardson's visit to English and Scotch universities.
Part 111 contains recommendations as to changes in the curriculum and methods of instruction which, it may be hoped, would result in improved conditions in college. The conclusions which Mr. Richardson arrives at are based on over twenty years experience as a member of the Dartmouth faculty and recent visits to nineteen colleges or universities in the United States, two in Canada, nine in England, and three in Scotland.
The volume can be obtained by addressing The Treasurer of the College. (The cost is $1.50)
