Since the recent death of Leander M. Nute '54, the honor of being Dartmouth's oldest living alumnus has been in the hands of Samuel H. Jackman '6O. Like two of the three next oldest alumni, Mr. Jackman is a native of the Granite state, having been born in Enfield, June 20, 1831. He is a teacher and was one of the early settlers in California. While crossing Utah on the overland journey from Illinois in 1861, he was wounded in a skirmish with the Indians. Mr. Jackman is now retired and lives at 2819 East street, Sacramento, California.
