UNUSUAL EXHIBITION OF RARE BOOKS IN COLLEGE COLLECTION
June 1925

In connection with his course on "The Art of the Book" Assistant Librarian Harold G. Rugg recently arranged a public exhibition of some of the oldest and most valuable of the rare books in the College collection. Many of the volumes, almost priceless, had never been shown in Hanover before.

The exhibition included books valuable for their typography, illustrations and bindings, and a collection of bookplates of much worth. Several volumes were printed before 1500 from such presses as the Aldus, .Plantin and Elzevir, the oldest having been printed in 1470.

A Kelmscott Chaucer called by many the finest book ever printed, a facsimile of the Gutenberg Bible, the first book ever printed, a Page from the original copy of the Bible, and Eliot's Indian Bible, the oldest American book in existence were features which attrac- ted much attention.

Exhibits with a strong Dartmouth connection were the books printed by the Spooner brothers in the original Dartmouth Hall in 1778 and 1779.
