Dartmouth's first game of the Intercollegiate Basketball League series was played at New Haven, Jan. 10, when Captain Dey's team defeated the Yale five by a score of 26 to 16. The team from Hanover exhibited a powerful offensive, led by Langdell, and took the lead at the outset. Yale was unable to check the Dartmouth scoring and the half closed with the Green team leading at 13 to 6.
The situation was reversed however, when Yale opened the second half of the game with a rush that scored 10 points before the Dartmouth team was able to get under way. The New Haven team was leading at 16 to 14 half way through the second period, when Gordon dribbled the ball down the floor and with a beautiful throw from the side of the court tied the count. He scored for Dartmouth a few moments later, taking a bad pass from a Yale player, and the Green attack once more began to function smoothly. Yale was unable to add another point and the Dartmouth men drew ahead to win by 10 points.
Langdell, who scored eight points for Dartmouth and held Jones of Yale to one basket, was the outstanding player of the Dartmouth team. Gordon scored five of Dartmouth's points, Whittaker three, McFadden two, and Dey one. For Yale Lackey scored 11 points, Carmody and Jones two each, and Simmen one.
