Myron E. Witham 'O4, one of Dartmouth's greatest football captains and quarterbacks, is the subject of the following article lifted from The Colorado Alumnus.
"Championship teams for two years out of six, victory in 30 games out of 44 games played, a total score of 756 against 249 by opponents, never a hint that he taught unfair football, much praise for his clean, honorable, sportsmanlike qualities and practices, the respect, confidence and loyalty of the men who have played under him, the faith and confidence of thousands of football fans, this is the record of Head Coach Myron E. Witham, who has just closed his sixth football season at the University of Colorado.
"This is, indeed, a record of achievement to be attained in the short span of six years, and out of it has come recognition to Witham as the ablest mentor in the region, a coach worthy of the traditions he himself helped to establish at Dartmouth.
"Though his record in scores won is enough to satisfy any ambitious man, it is quite likely that if Coach Witham should reveal his true feelings he would be found to take a greater pride in his record for clean sportsmanship and in the reflection that under him many young men have learned to meet the bufferings of life with a smile on the face, optimism in the heart, and a stubborn determination to hit the line with all they have, cleanly and fairly. To have this to look back upon and at the same time to hang up a record that shows such a striking success over a period of years is a double accomplishment that can be claimed by few coaches anywhere in the country.
"Witham's teams were champions of the Rocky Mountain territory in 1923 and 1924. In 1920, Witham's first year at the university, the Silver and Gold stood fourth in the conference, in '2l it was second, in '22 it was fifth, and this year it was fourth.
"Taking conference games alone. Witham has won 24 out of 34 played. He has lost but six and tied four. In these games his teams have earned scores totaling 537 points against 146 points for their opponents. In games played outside the conference, including the game with the University of Chicago in '2l, with Hawaii University in '24, and with Creighton College at Omaha in '25, Witham's teams have won six games out of ten played, earning a total score of 219 against 103 for their opponents."
