Harvard 3, Dartmouth 2
By scoring after four minutes of overtime play following an extremely fast and closely contested game, the Harvard hockey team defeated Dartmouth 3 to 2 before a large crowd gathered in the Boston Arena Feb. 20. Harvard was the only American team to defeat Dartmouth during the season, the Green's only other loss having been to the University of Toronto sextet.
The game was by no means a decisive victory for the Crimson and there was even some doubt as to the the outcome, Fryberger, of Dartmouth, having in the first period apparently shot a legitimate goal which the umpire did not see. The counting of this goal would have given the game to Dartmouth by a 3 to 2 score at the end of the game. Fryberger accounted for both of Dartmouth's goals and Zarakov scored two goals for Harvard.
Toronto 6, Dartmouth 1
Toronto University's championship team decisively whipped the Dartmouth skaters 6 to 1 in an international championship game played at Madison Square Garden, New York, February 25.
Due to the sensational work of both goal tenders neither team was able to score during the first period. Both teams launched furious attacks in the succeeding session and play became rough. Dartmouth's defense was greatly handicapped by penalties, three of the Green players being ruled off the ice at one time. The Canadian players taking advantage of this opportunity speedily registered four goals. Play was hard and fast again in the third period, Toronto adding two goals, while Manser, on a pass from Lane, scored Dartmouth's single tally.
In recognition of the splendid record made during the past season during which their only defeat by an American college team was the one registered by Harvard eight members of the Dartmouth Hockey Team were awarded major sport letters by the Athletic Council. This is the first time in the history of hockey at Dartmouth that straight letters have been voted to members of the' team. The men awarded the insignia. were Captain G. E. Manser '26, S. H. Anthony '26, D. N. Everett '26, S. Mills '26, H. A. Rowe '26, W. B. Fryberger '27, C. L. Hardy '27, M. J. Lane '28, and managers S. C. Hayward '26 and A. M Rankin '27.
At a meeting of the letter men, C. L. Hardy '27, who through the season played one of the defensive positions, was elected to captain next year's team. Hardy was a member of last season's championship football team and is a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity and the Sphinx senior society.
