Coach Karl Michael's swimmers amassed their second Eastern League win in Hanover by defeating Penn by the score of 46- 29. In racking up their second victory of the still young swimming season, the Green went out to win the first three events and the first five out of six, thereby safely sewing up the contest. In the first event, the 300-yard medley relay, the Dartmouth team of Captain Dana Jackson, Frank Bruch, and Doug Simmons went out ahead. Smith of Dartmouth won the 220-yard freestyle and Jock Mclntyre came in first in the 50- yard freestyle. After Penn won the dive, Mclntyre came back to win his second race in the 100-yard freestyle. Captain Jackson won the 150-yard backstroke, and De Forrest of Penn then set a new pool record of 2:25.3 in the 200-yard breaststroke. This effort broke the former record held by Chuck Solberg of Dartmouth of 2:25.6 which was set last year. Duke of Dartmouth won the 440-yard freestyle and the Green concluded by winning the.4oo-yard relay. With several of his most valued charges found among the sophomore contingent this year, Coach Michael is undergoing the pleasant and rewarding experience of having some young and excellent material to work with.
