The annual meeting of the New Hampshire Alpha of Phi Beta Kappa was held Thursday evening, February 25. Previously the annual meetings have been held in June at Commencement time. The constitution was amended last June so as to change the date of the annual meeting to the week of February 22.
Eleven members of the class of 1926 who had attained an average of 3.2 or above were initiated into the society by Professor A. K. Hardy, President. These men were W. W. Chism, D. E. Church, R. E. Cleary, R. W. Emmes, W. L. Fellingham, H. T. Marshall, A. E. Morris, R. M. Nichols, G. D. Snell, E. D. Steel, Jr. and R. E. Thompson.
Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows: President, Dean Craven Laycock; Vice Presidents, Professor William Patten, the Rt. Rev. Ethelbert Talbot '70, the Rev. Ozora S Davis '89, Raymond L. Pearl '99, and President Harry W. Chase '04 of the University of North Carolina; Secretary and Treasurer, Harold G. Rugg '06; Auditor, Professor R. D. Beetle '06; Members of the Executive Committee, Professor Ernest B. Watson 02, Professor William H. Murray '02, and Professor Royal C. Nemiah.
The constitution was so amended that the following persons shall be eligible for election as regular members: alumni of Dartmouth College whose work since graduation shall be deemed of such a character as to entitle them to membership. Except in places of unusual intellectual distinction, no alumnus shall be elected within fourteen years after receiving his Bachelor's degree.
Following the business meeting, which was held in the Green Key room in Robinson Hall, a banquet was held at the Hanover Inn. Professor F. P. Emery acted as toastmaster, and introduced Professor Wilbur L. Cross, Dean of the Yale Graduate School, who addressed the members on the subject "Literature and Science."
