Ernest C. Robes, Mechanician, assistant to the science departments, died of heart disease April 3. He had been suffering from frequent heart attacks for the past seven months.
Mr. Robes was born in Somerville, Mass., on February 27, 1870. After completing his education at the Somerville High School he entered the employ of the American Bell Telephone Company doing research work.
Mr. Robes then joined the Submarine Signal Company and in this organization accomplished work which was of great use in the laying and maintaining of trans-atlantic cables.
In 1913 Mr. Robes went to the Jefferson Physical Laboratories at Harvard and worked for six years under Professor Walter Sabine. While '11 Cambridge he also worked with Professor William A. Hooper of Tufts College.
Mr. Robes came to Dartmouth in September, 1919 and had remained here as assistant to the science department ever since.
