Joe Colby, who is vice-president of the Canadian Carbonate Company, recently announced the erection of a new plant in Montreal, to be devoted to purifying carbonic gas under the Backhaus process. (Jim Kimball please note.) This important industrial development follows the purchase by the Canadian Carbonate Company of the Canadian patents covering the use of this process from the United States Industrial Alcohol Company. It is anticipated that this plant is the forerunner of several plants which will be installed throughout Canada. The Canadian Carbonate Company is the largest producer of carbonic acid and gas in the British Empire, and at the present time is operating plants in Halifax, Montreal, Toronto, Hamilton, Winnipeg, and Vancouver. It is understood that Joe's short stay at the reunion was due to the purchase of the Backhaus process, which culminated at the time of the reunion.
