From the office of Dean of Freshmen, E. Gordon Bill, the announcement was made at the end of the first semester that 36 members of the class of 1930 had received grades of 3.0 or better, and that the marks of 18 of these men were higher than 3.2 The highest mark recorded among the freshmen was that. of 3.7 received by H. S. Obert, of Lakewood, Ohio. Following him in the ranking were R. T. Whittlesey, of Germantown, Pa., who received a mark of 3.6, and A. M. Hayes, of Albany, N. Y., whose grade was 3.5. Seven, members of the class attained a grade of 3.4. They were, H. F. Condon, Jr., of Aurora, 111., R. R. Fawcett, of Canton, Ohio, J. French Jr., of Greenwich, Conn. F. H. Horn, of Toledo, Ohio, R. A. Parker, of Chicago, 111., J. S. Whipple, of Concord, Mass., and F. M. Wiese, of Elizabeth, N. J. Students from Ohio though they represented but 6 per cent of the enrollment of the freshman class contributed 14 per cent of the honor men. Students from Massachusetts representing 24 per cent of the membership of the class provided 31 per cent of those attaining high rank.
