BEETHOVEN'S NINTH SYMPHONY ON COMMENCEMENT PROGRAM
JUNE, 1927

Extensive preparations are being made for Beethoven's Ninth Symphony which is to be produced jointly by the Dartmouth Symphony Orchestra and the Community Chorus, Sunday, June 19, under the leadership of Prof. M. F. Longhurst. The choral part of the Ninth Symphony comes in the Fourth movement and gives opportunity for a large number of voices.

This is not the first symphony to be presented under the leadership of Professor Longhurst. In 1923 Beethoven's Fifth Symphony was presented by the Community Orchestra, assisted by several members from the Boston Symphony, and again in the preceding year Beethoven's Second Symphony was presented.

Among Professor Longhurst's other productions have been: Mendelssohn and Sullivan Oratorios: Saint Paul in 1926, The Golden Legend in 1925, and Elijah in 1924; The Gilbert and Sullivan Operettas: Mikado in 1923, Pinafore in 1924, The Gondoliers in 1926.
