In honor of Charles Darwin Adams, Lawrence Professor of the Greek Language and Literature, who retires from teaching this June on the fiftieth anniversary of his graduation from Dartmouth, members of the Dartmouth faculty and former students gathered at a banquet in College Hall, Saturday evening, May 21. President Hopkins presided at the dinner and presented to Professor Adams a sheepskin scroll bearing the signatures of those present and inscribed "To Charles Darwin Adams, in appreciation of what you have done for Dartmouth College, in esteem for your scholarship and character, in recognition of what you have been to neighbors and friends. At the close of 34 years of active service your colleagues in honoring you as their guest ask you to keep in memory the abiding friendship of your hosts of today." Following the dinner Professor Adams spoke to the gathering of his years of teaching in Hanover and of the happiness that had come to him in his work.
