Harvard 72 1-3—Dartmouth 62 2-3
JUNE, 1927

Dartmouth's track team showed strength in the third annual Harvard-Dartmouth dual meet, and although defeated by the Crimson by a score of 72 1-3 to 62 2-3, provided stern competition for what appears to be the best of the eastern track and field outfits. Harvard's scor- ing power in the final events overcame a lead that the Green team had maintained throughout the afternoon.

During the progress of the competition six meet records were broken and. a seventh one equalled. The new marks established by Dartmouth men were made by Wells, in the 220 yard low hurdles race, by Maynard, in the high jump, and Ketz, in the broad jump. Harvard's record breakers were Moore, in the javelin throw, Reid, in the two-mile run, and Locke, in the shot put. In the mile run Haggerty, of Harvard, tied the previous record. In addition to these performances, Wells, of Dartmouth turned in a new mark for the 120 yard high hurdles race, and Miller, of Harvard, lowered the figures for the 100 yard dash; but neither of these marks were allowed to stand because of the wind which was blowing at the time.

Although the performances ot Wells, Maynard, and Ketz, featured the meet for Dartmouth other notable performances were turned in by members of the Green team. Swope, duplicated his feat of the Pennsylvania-Dartmouth meet, by winning the quarter mile race with another great driving finish. Glendinning scored second places in both the 100 and 220 yard dashes, and Black followed Wells in second place in both hurdle races. Neither Martin nor Covert scored for Dartmouth as it was expected they would score, the former being only able to take third glaces in the mile and half mile runs, while the latter was unable to reach his previous distance with the javelin.
