The University of New Hampshire won the Intercollegiate Winter Sports Union cup for the third consecutive year when E. O. Pederson by a 117-foot leap garnered a first place to overcome the one point lead that McGill university had held up to that event. New Hampshire had a total of 30 points while McGill University came second with 26 points. Dartmouth barely nosed into third place scoring 14 points with the fourth place going to Syracuse university, which had a final tally of 13 points.
The second and third places in the ski-jumping contest went to Dartmouth, Cruikshank and Whittemore scoring respectively. Des Rosiers of Norwich university took fourth place to score Norwich's sole point during the meet. In his final jump, Thomas of Syracuse university received a badly wrenched shoulder which required first-aid treatment at Dick's House.
Exhibition jumping followed the contest with Pederson furthering his official jump by two feet and bringing the record leap for the day up to 119 feet.
The cross-country snow shoe race finished at the foot of the landing hill a few minutes preceding the jumping contest. Pangman of McGill was first followed by Lazure of New Hampshire. Balmer, a team-mate of Pangman's, took third place, and Moore of Williams finished fourth.
Dustin of New Hampshire won the seven mile cross-country ski race which was held Saturday morning. Dorken and Ball of McGill and Woodward of New Hampshire finished in the order given.
Denesha of Syracuse won both the speed and distance skating races on Occom pond Saturday morning; these races had been postponed from Thursday night because of the softness of the ice. In the 440 yard dash MacClurg of Syracuse, Van Nortwick of St. Bonaventure and Chapman of Dartmouth placed in order. Van Nortwick's tally did not count in the final summary because St. Bonaventure was not a member of the I.W.S.U. In the two mile skating race Wendall of New Hampshire took second place while Mailman of New Hampshire and Ryan of Dartmouth finished third and fourth.
The fancy skating event was closely contested with Cruikshank of Dartmouth taking first place. He was followed by Bolton and Campbell-Brown of McGill. Sears of Williams finished fourth.
Pederson of New Hampshire and Denesha of Syracuse shared first place for individual scoring honors each having a total of ten points.
Cruikshank of Dartmouth was next with eight points.
The competitors, judges, Carnival Committee and the D. O. C. officials were banqueted in Commons Saturday evening.
W. P. Kimball '28 presented the I. W. S. U. championship cup to Captain Weston of the New Hampshire team. The cup will be returned to the I.W.S.U. committee annually and will be kept in competition as long as the Intercollegiate Winter Sports Union maintains its organization. Individual scorers also received medals.
The Dartmouth team sorely missed the presence of C. N. Proctor '2B, who is at the Olympic ski-jumping competition, representing the United States, at St. Moritz, Switzerland. The colleges scored in the following order: New Hampshire University 30, McGill 26, Dartmouth 14, Syracuse 13, Williams 2, St. Bonaventure 2 and Norwich 1.
