APRIL 1928

Publishers Weekly for February 4 contains an article by Clifford Orr '22 "Mr. Crump Shows His Line." This is the first of a series of bookshop portraits which Mr. Orr has written for Publishers Weekly, and which he describes as "bits of foolishness with a barb or two which ought to hit no one in particular and everyone in general."

The March number of Drift-Wind, a magazine of Vermont and the North Hills, contains two poems by Clifton E. Blake '24 "June NightFall: Vermont," and "Par." The same magazine contains an article by Charles Edward Crane '06 entitled "Kipling: Vermonter."

"The Individual and the Group" by Professor H. A. Miller '99 appears in the February issue of World Unity.

J. Almus Russell '2O is the author of an article in Education (Boston) for February, 1928 entitled "Hawthorne and the Romantic India."

Richard C. Plumer '12 is the author of "Investment Trusts," a pamphlet of eight pages.

The 1928 Alumni Fund

Owing to the fact that nine classes—1887, 1897, 1912, 1920, 1921, 1922, .1923, 1924, and 1926—are not being solicited until after April 1 it is not possible to compare the standing of the Alumni Fund at this time with its standing one year ago. From the standings of, the other classes which are available, however, no more promise of reaching the goal of $115,000 is held out than was the case at this date last year. Because the same goal was missed last year by about $4,000 the total of class quotas was not raised for this campaign. All class agents are trying this year to increase contributions, both in numbers and in amount, so that the goal set for the alumni will not be missed two years in succession.

At the top of the opposite page the third mailing piece "A Keen Investor" is reproduced and below it appears the fourth flier. This is the president's message concerning the current fund campaign. The photograph above of the late President William Jewett Tucker is from the painting by J. D. Katzieff. This canvas now hangs in the Administration Building and was constructed by the artist from photographs of Dr. Tucker.

Around the fire at Newton Cabin In the background are German Raab, recreational ski coach and N. E. Odell of the Mt. Everest expedition
