Dick's House has now been in operation for two years and has become an indispensable part of the college life. It is necessary for the College to make a reasonable charge to boys occupying the house to meet the costs of operation and boys who are working their way through college sometimes find it difficult to meet these charges. It is difficult enough for such boys to meet the minimum costs of securing a college education and it will be a failure of the purpose of the house if this fact should to any extent deprive a boy of the use of the House when he stands in need of the service which it can render.
With the purpose of relieving this situation Memorial Funds for Dick's House have been established which may be used by the College to aid boys who may need assistance in meeting the charges. The income from the funds may be loaned to any student who requests, and who obviously requires, such a loan in order to meet his House charges. Loans are without interest and may be repaid as the College and the student may agree or in the discretion of the College the income may be applied directly to the payment of House charges where it appears that this is justified by the financial status of a boy or of his parents. If in any year the entire income from any fund is not used for loans or in the payment of House charges the balance may be transferred to the Dick Hall's House Maintenance Account which will be used for the replacement, repair or maintenance of the furnishing and equipment of Dick's House.
Seven Funds have now been established, most of them as specific memorials, but more are needed if the House is to serve its greatest usefulness. One general fund entitled "Friends of Dick's House" is of particular interest in that it allows additions to the Fund to be made in any amount. Further memorial funds may be established and at the desire of the donor may have the additional purpose of honoring the memory of some individual. Information concerning these funds can be obtained by those interested by addressing Dick's House or the Bursar of the College, at Hanover.
