An announcement from the President's office states that a traveling fellowship for the next year has been given the College by Governor Redfield Proctor of Proctor, Vermont. The fellowship carries a provision for the award of an amount comparable to that of a Rhodes Scholarship and the qualifications which regulated the choice of the recipient for the year 1929-1930 are similar to those observed in the choice of Rhodes Scholars. The donor of the fellowship has stipulated that it should be awarded by President Hopkins.
Dudley Orr '29 has been named for this fellowship for the coming year. He will fulfill the purpose of Governor Proctor in providing the fellowship by a year of travel and study abroad. Orr's plans are not definitely made at the present time, but he will either continue his academic work at one of the English universities or at a German or French university. He will take his advanced work in History. Orr is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Palaeopitus, the Green Key, Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, and Casque and Gauntlet.
The donor of the fellowship, Redfield Proctor, is a former governor of the State of Vermont and is a son of the Honorable Redfield Proctor of the Class of 1851, at one time governor of the State of Vermont and United States Senator from 1891 to 1908. Governor Proctor is also President of the New England Council.
