And Dartmouth Finds One
APRIL 1929 Phil Sherman

The news was not long in breaking. As far back as last fall, rumors flew thick and fast that Dartmouth was all in favor of intersectional games, and that the larger they came the better every one would like it.

The next thing the public knew was that the Big Green had reached a long hand clear across the continent and signed a two year contract with the biggest football team of them all—Leland Stanford. The first game will be in far away Palo Alto, where the land of eternal summer lies, according to California residents, and 1930 will be the date. It is not altogether unlikely that another National Pow Wow will be slated for that week-end, and this writer can have a good opportunity to compare Mid-Western alumni gatherings with Far-Western clans. In fact he may paint the Ford (we always travel in Fords) and take a trip to that sunny land this summer to see what the alumni groups are like in that section. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

The Stanford-Dartmouth game was the culmination of the meeting of the two college presidents at a New York banquet. Our own Dr. Hopkins and Pres. Ray Lyman Wilbur of Stanford. Both men were agreed upon present day football rivalries, and both wished to see their respective teams meet, which has never happened to that date.

The site of the 1981 game is still undecided, and Dartmouth men are anxiously waiting the result of the meeting of the Harvard Corporation, a gathering which may decide to offer the Harvard Stadium for the game. If that is the case, Boston will get one of the biggest football plums in years.
