To the international institute convention of the Dartmouth Christian Association came Dr. Ernest Gruening, editor of the Portland News, and famous for his successful fight in Portland for Maine's control of her water power. Mr. Gruening spoke on the American occupation of Haiti. A second speaker was Mr. H. P. Davis, organizer of the Haitian Chamber of Commerce, who lectured from the point of view opposite from that of his fellow speaker.
The annual Harvard-Dartmouth debate resulted in a victory for the Green arguers by a narrow margin. The debate, conducted on the cross-examination plan, covered the question of censorship, an admirable subject for the Crimson Bostonians to discuss. The plan of cross-examination has succeeded in greatly enlivening these debates to the extent that quite large audiences now attend them.
