The feature event of Monday was the alumni luncheon, already described. The luncheon, and a heavy rain, followed quickly upon the conclusion of the baseball game, which Dartmouth lost to Boston College 2-0 and which was characterized as a slow game, contrasting sharply with the dramatic game of last Commencement won in an extra inning in a Frank Merriwell fashion—by Dartmouth.
Many of the fraternities held alumni teas and reunions Monday afternoon. Late in the afternoon Professor Homer P. Whitford gave an organ recital in Rollins Chapel, and in a rapid sequence of musical events came the quarter-hour program of the Trumpeters, a concert by the Musical Clubs in Webster Hall at 8 P.M., and the second promenade concert by the band at 9:30 under elm trees still glistening from recent rain.
The Commencement Ball was a successful party staged by the class of 1931, with good music, and decorations of huge Japanese lanterns and greens creating a garden effect. The patronesses were: Mrs. Hopkins, Mrs. Henry B. Chamberlin, Mrs. Frederick E. Godfrey, Mrs. Francis W. Gruen, Mrs. George F. Hall, Mrs. Craven Laycock, Mrs. Maurice F. Longhurst, Mrs. Andrew MacKechnie, Mrs. Charles Steck, Mrs. Charles L. Stone, Mrs. Charles L. Sullivan, and Mrs. John G. Winant.
