THE ALUMNI FUND
JULY 1931

W. J. Minsell '07, chairman of the Alumni Fund committee of the Council, reported on this important feature of the Council's activity. He said that it was possible for the Council to assist the committee a great deal throughout the campaign. There have been two things which the committee has attempted to do this year:

First, to secure a larger number of contributors, regardless of the size of contributions, and second, to collect a sizable sum of money for the unrestricted uses of the College.

Mr. Minsch explained the difficulties of selecting the right class agents for each class, as well as the difficulty of organizing the work of raising money through an intensive campaign and still retain the good natured spirit of willing giving which is held to be such an integral part of the Dartmouth Alumni Fund procedure. He stated that there was no assurance of making the quota this year. With only two weeks to go the Fund stands at about 50% of its quota. A special appeal is being made within a few days to all those alumni who have already contributed $100 or more asking them to further increase the size of their contributions if they are able to do this and to allow this additional gift to be added to the Fund in case the quota is not met on June 30.

The innovation this year of sending out, in attractive book form, the President's address at the opening of College, was announced to be a permanent feature of Fund publicity. It is expected that as time goes on alumni will highly prize their collection of these addresses and that in this way the distribution of the volumes to contributors will become an incentive to contributing to the Fund.

Robert C. Strong '24, executive secretary of the Fund committee, announced that the campaign was running about $15,000 behind last year and that there were about 700 fewer contributors than at the same time in 1930. He stated, however, that the class agents are doing more than ever before and that they cannot be blamed for the present poor standing of many classes.

Mr. Minsch concluded the report of the committee by asking members of the Council to personally follow up the letter to the larger contributors.

Upon his recommendation, It was MOVED AND VOTED: that there be applied to the William Jewett Tucker Fellowship for the year ending June 80, 1931 $1,000

That the balance be appropriated to apply on current expenses of the College and as an addition to the permanent endowment fund in such proportion as the Fund Committee may approve after the final figures for the year, both for the Fund and the College, are available.

It was also MOVED AND VOTED: that Albert I. Dickerson '30 be appointed executive secretary of the Alumni Fund for the year 1931-32.

It was also MOVED AND VOTED: that the report of the Fund Committee be accepted and that the appreciation of the Council be extended to Mr. Minsch, Mr. Strong, and their assistants, for the good work done during the campaign.
