ALUMNI are asked by the family and business associates of Verson W. Gooch, a member of the Dartmouth class of 1901, to assist in solving the mystery of his disappearance in New York, November 8. Mr. Gooch is a resident of Wakefield, Mass., and is an executive of the United Fruit Company of Boston. He checked out of the Hotel Pennsylvania about 8 P.M. on November 8 and no word or clue of any kind has revealed his whereabouts since that time. When he left the hotel he was carrying a large suitcase nearly four feet in length.
Mr. Gooch, who had suffered a nervous breakdown and was on a leave of absence from business, left his home in Wakefield on November 7 and told his family he was going to Asbury Park, N. J., where he maintained a legal residence, to vote. The police are certain that he never reached there. He registered at the Hotel Pennsylvania on election day morning. Relatives have said that his financial affairs were in excellent condition.
Dartmouth friends will remember Mr. Gooch as being slight in build. He is about five feet one or two inches tall, weighs about 115 pounds, and is slightly bald. His complexion is ruddy and he carries a scar on the back of his neck, the result of an operation. He is 54 years old.
