MAKING BETTER MOVIES.
April 1933

By Arthur L. Gale '27 and Russell C. Holslag, Amateur Cinema League, Inc.

With home movies ever increasing in popularity the fame of the names of these authors has steadily grown. They are the authorities to whom some thousands of 16 mm. movie makers turn every year for advice. And now the 8 mm. people, using the smaller and less expensive film, are looking to the Amateur Cinema League, and Messrs. Gale and Holslag, for more help. Mr. Gale, of the class of '27, is editor of Movie Makers, the official and highly readable monthly publication of the A.C.L. It has required some considerable amount of energy and able effort to carry on the work of this organization during these dark days, and to the authors goes much of the credit for so doing. Aided by simplifying inventions and lowered costs for both camera and projector equipment the A.C.L. has shown no evidence of decreased popularity.

This book is designed for the beginner in movie making. Its writing is lucid, quite explicit, which is what one most desires when confronted with a movie camera. But its later chapters, and for that matter the whole book, bear close attention from veterans of the hobby. Diagrams assist in explaining lenses, lighting, titling and related, things. An enthusiast can learn it all for himself, possibly, but you'll save time and money if you first take Mr. Gale's good advice. S.C.H.
