The Morrill Allen Gallagher Memorial Scholarships, awarded annually to two undergraduates with Rhodes Scholarship qualifications, have been granted this year to William B. Clark '35, of Westfield, Mass., and C. Herbert Stearns '35, of Mansfield, Mass. The scholarships, carrying stipends of $600 each, are based upon a gift of $25,000 made by the late Mrs. Kate M. Morse of Boston.

The Justin H. Smith Fund Scholarships, based upon a fund established by bequest of Justin H. Smith '77 of New York, historian and former member of the faculty, have been awarded to Peter M. Day '35, of Milwaukee, Wis.; Charles E. Richards Jr. '36, of Cleveland Heights, Ohio; Royal K. Abbott Jr. '37, of Cranston, R. I.; Robert E. Olson '37, of Chatham, N. J.; and Paul B. Welldon '37, of Manchester, N. H. These scholarships, carrying stipends of $500 each, are awarded annually to students "distinguished for proficiency in studies, sound morale and physical health."

Both winners of the Gallagher Memorial Scholarships have been prominent in Dartmouth athletics. Clark is captain of baseball and is now in his third year as a member of the varsity football team. He was captain of the 1935 freshman football team, and won his numerals also in hockey and baseball. He is vice-president of the senior class, a member of Palaeopitus, and foreman of the Undergraduate Fire Squad. He is a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity, Sphinx and Green Key.
