The gladness of the holiday season was darkened for those of his classmates who knew of the death of "Doc" Lougee on December ax. For one college year "Doc" was the Reed Hall roommate of the Secretary, who thus had opportunity to know well the qualities of kindness and friendliness which were outstanding in "Doc's" nature. His lack of robust health barred him from athletic activities, but he thoroughly enjoyed his college years and liked to live them over in memory in after life. It was characteristic of him that, as his brother, Dr. Will Lougee 'BB, writes: "He was uncomplaining during his whole trying illness and worried lest he cause too muchtrouble to his friends or the nurses."

Endeavoring to get in touch with Charles Gordon in reference to the death of Lougee, who was one of his closest friends, we learned that he (Gordon) was at that time on the ocean returning from a five weeks' journey to Peru to visit his daughter.

Christmas brought a card of remembrance from one classmate, Ebbs, from whom we had not heard previously in a long time. The postmark tells us that he is still located in Newport, R. I. From the farthest distance came Penniman's St. Louis card. Others from whom we heard were Aborn, Caswell, Griffith, Mann, Martyn, Metcalf, Place, McQuestin, Woodbury.
