On Thursday evening, February 15, the annual formal banquet was held at the Hotel Kingsway. Dean Craven Laycock on his tour toward the Southwest was the guest of honor. Among 71 people present, about a half dozen were progenitors of Dartmouth undergraduates, six or seven prospective undergraduates, and the balance, alumni and wives.

Before Craven out-Webstered Webster with his usual peerless speech, entertainment in the form of two young college men of local radio and beer tavern fame was provided. Dartmouth songs were sung, with the alumni joining in each chorus and thus creating a real unity that would have otherwise been not so noticeable in view of the mixed company present.

Inasmuch as it was agreed that of all Dartmouth men, Craven "took the cake," a fitting symbol of such accomplishment was presented to him. Gray Magee '30 delivered the pastry. In keeping with the significance, the Dean then delivered an address that brought awed silence and rapt attention, lightened only by the keen wit and hearty humor of his unfailing versatility.

Phil Bassett then introduced the new vicepresident and secretary-treasurer, and the evening officially closed. It was found, however, that an informal but well-numbered gathering convened in the near-by tap room, where matters of a more liquid nature were under consideration for a goodly length of time.

On Monday evening, March 5, an informal smoker was held at the home of Pete Grace '32. While the main event of our smokers is merely conversation and spreading of latest news of the College, this one proved exceptionally entertaining. Max Waldsmith '32 brought some films with him and we enjoyed an evening in Guanajuato, Mexico, together with plenty of side scenes.

It is in this type of gathering that we place most of our hope for well-knitted unity and productive loyalty to our Alma Mater.

Readers should note that the weekly luncheons are now scheduled for each Saturday noon at the Hotel Mark Twain, in the main dining room. Any time between 12:30 and 2:00 will find a bunch of the boys at the round table. If you are anywhere near, be sure to drop around.
