From E. D. Burbank '91 of Sierra Madre, California, comes word of the attempt made there recently by an imposter to victimize him. The man claimed to be a Dartmouth non-graduate, having spent the year 1925 in Hanover. He said he was the son of Edward N. Shirley '90 and he spoke of Dartmouth people in Evanston, Illinois, including H. H. Hilton '90. He asked for an advance of funds to assist him on his way to Seattle where he was to take up the further study of medicine. Mr. Burbank was suspicious and asked him to call in later, in the meantime getting in touch with Mr. Shirley who disclaimed any knowledge of the activities of the man. The imposter did not return. He may approach other alumni, m which case they are urged to turn him over to police.
He is described as: "small, dark complextoned, well dressed, and his manner showedcareful rearing."
This is the first complaint of the year in regard to imposters who are constantly cropping up in various parts of the country Preying on alumni of Dartmouth and other colleges.
