Upper left—Mrs. Hopkins christening Dartmouth's two eightoared shells Phillips and Ledyard. The President's wife is breaking a bottle of waters from the Connecticut River and Lake Mascoma against a rock of New Hampshire granite.

Upper right—Coach James Smith, of the Union Boat Club of Boston, has no coaching launch but sculls himself about Lake Mascoma to instruct Dartmouth's amateur oarsmen.

Center—Two full crews pose in professional style with Mrs.

Hopkins and Coach Smith before the old ice house in Enfield which has become headquarters for Dartmouth's rowing activities.
