The financial report of the Dartmouth College Athletic Council shows an operating loss of $36,609.31 for the fiscal year ended June 30. Through the exercise of the strictest economy and the contribution by the College of $24,000.00 to apply on the expenses of the recreational-intramural program, the deficit for the year was $29,455.69 less than the budget loss of $66,065.00.

The report shows a total expense of $215,181.41 for the year 1934-35, with operating income given as $178,572.10. The difference between the two totals was financed by net advances of $31,609.31 from the General Fund and by $5,000.00 from cash in the Operating Fund. During 1934-35, income from operations increased by $8,915.96 over the previous year, while expenses decreased by $749.03.

Football was the only intercollegiate sport to show a profit for the year, its income exceeding expenses by $36,701.73. Basketball came only $39.80 short of paying for itself, while baseball, hockey and track came next in the matter of receipts.

The recreation-intramural program was greatly expanded; during the past year, and was participated in by nearly 90 per cent of the student body. This branch of organized sport was carried on at a total cost of $27,548.41, of which amount the Athletic Council paid $3,115.58 after the College had assumed the major portion of the cost by contributing $24,000.00 on January 1.
