Chicago Scholarship
October 1935

The new Chicago Alumni Scholarship was inaugurated early in September with the announcement by Prof. Francis J. A. Neef, chairman of the Committee on Scholarships and Loans, that President Hopkins had approved Robert F. MacLeod '39 of Glen Ellyn, Ill., as the first recipient.

In putting into operation its plan of giving scholarship aid to boys from its section of the country, the Chicago Association has guaranteed $500 a year to provide a scholarship for one undergraduate. The recipient shall be a boy from the State of Illinois and preferably one selected by the Chicago Association's scholarship committee, of which Robert L. Burnap '94 is chairman.

The Chicago plan was first announced by Louis E. Leverone '04 at the June meeting of the Dartmouth Alumni Council. At that time Mr. Leverone expressed the hope that other alumni clubs in other sections of the country might become interested in adopting a similar plan to serve as a unifying interest in alumni club affairs and as a means of helping impecunious young men through college.
