ALTHOUGH GREAT tragedy such as shadowed the campus two years ago has fortunately not afflicted the College in recent months, the MAGAZINE wishes to record its great regret in the passing of several alumni whose careers have been either officially, or in an almost equally intimate way associated with the College.

Bishop Sumner '98 was a Dartmouth pioneer in the Pacific North- west and served for two terms as a member of the Alumni Council. Dr. Ed Frost 'B6, an inspiration to the world of science by his great courage in continuing his research and writing, although totally blind, will be sadly missed as will Leon B. Williams, secretary of '86, and another beloved classmate, John French. Heywood Knowlton '17 had become a most valuable member of the faculty. George A. Dickey '80 had in June directed the activities of his 55th reunion. Three other class secretaries passed away during the year—William T. Gage '64, Henry W. Stevens '75, and Willis V. McDuffee '90.

Dartmouth records the passing of these men with great regret.
