Conduct of the Sherman murder trial at Worcester, Mass., won high praise for District Attorney Owen A. Hoban '99, who successfully prosecuted the case. Concerning Mr. Hoban, who is secretary of the Class of 1899, The Worcester Telegram made the following editorial comment: But it is of the district attorney and hisma?iagement of the prosecution which wewish to speak particularly. Mr. Hoban andhis staff performed practically a flawlessjob. Flawless, too, was Mr. Hoban's presentation, in direct and cross examinationand in his final summation. His address tothe jury on the last day was a thrilling andconvincing exposition. Therein he revealedhimself as a great lawyer, one of the greatest surely who ever practised in Worcester. And we say this with full knowledge of thegreat lawyers who have gone before. HadMr. Hoban been practising in our courtswhen those great ones of the past werepractising, we are convinced that he wouldhave shown himself their peer.
hi that last argument he was eloquent,he was persuasive, he was patently sincere. He was tenacious but never vindictive. Hehad pity, he had sympathy, but justice washis insistent demand. He threw himselfinto the task with such consummate skilland such apparent personal convictionthat, as one spectator remarked, it seemedas if "he acted his case."
